Without reinforcement, we forget 50% of new info within 1 hour and 90% within 1 week. Spaced repetition intercepts the curve at optimal intervals. 1. CHUNK DESIGN (Miller's Law 7±2): Each chunk = coherent unit: one concept with supporting facts, explainable in 2-3 minutes, testable with one retrieval prompt. If it needs more prompts, split. 2. INTERVAL SCHEDULE: - Review 1 (1 hour): interrupts steepest decay. Should feel easy—the goal is interrupting, not struggling. - Review 2 (24 hours): consolidates to long-term. Requires effort—active recall, not recognition. Failure means chunk needs new teaching. - Review 3 (1 week): strengthens trace. By now, recall without cues. - Review 4 (1 month): tests long-term retention. Survivors move to stable memory. - Review 5 (3 months): final verification. Survivors are essentially permanent. 3. ACTIVE RECALL (no re-reading): Re-reading creates fluency illusion—familiarity ≠ knowledge. 5 prompts per chunk: 2 fill-in-blank, 2 explain-without-notes, 1 apply-to-new-scenario. 4. LEITNER ERROR REVISIT: Failed recall → reset interval to 1 day for that chunk. Must pass 3 consecutive daily reviews before returning to schedule. OUTPUT: Calendar at days 1, 7, 30, 90 with exact review tasks, active recall prompts, success criteria.
