Credits & billing
This page explains how credits work in Promptdoo, what consumes credits, and how to troubleshoot payment/credit issues.
Overview
Credits are used to pay for AI model calls.
Typical credit consumers:
- Prompt Optimizer
- MCP API calls
- skill generation (if enabled)
Where to see your credits
- Open your wallet / billing area in the UI.
- You can usually see:
- available credits
- recent transactions
How credits are consumed
Credits depend on:
- the model
- the length/complexity of the request
Common issues
402 Payment Required
This typically means you do not have enough credits.
What to do:
- purchase credits or upgrade your plan
- reduce the size of the request
- switch to a cheaper model
Payment succeeded but credits are missing
- wait a minute and reload
- check the transactions list
- contact support with timestamp + transaction id
Refunds / chargebacks
If a payment is refunded/charged back, credits may be removed accordingly.
Best practices
- set usage alerts (if available)
- use separate tokens per integration to track spend
- test prompts with smaller models first
